There are many types of strollers on the market today to accommodate the varied needs of our lifestyles. Many years ago strollers were simply to carry a child for a walk in the park or neighborhood. English pram type “buggies” were used for very small babies and

had a flat bed similar to a bassinette. Over the years strollers evolved along with shopping centers and malls. Shopping trips became a family affair, not just a trip to the grocery for necessities. Single-child, tandem, twin, and multi-child strollers appeared. Umbrella strollers were invented for quick trips as opposed to longer outings. So families have the ability to include the whole family in almost all their activities these days. That’s why there are so many types of strollers available. We even carry strollers for pets!

There are many features available on strollers. Adjustable handle which extends to fit your height is perfect if you are tall…this can save your back from bending over. Brakes that lock the wheels down so you can stop and care for the child or get the pebbles out of your shoe are imperative to safety. Also available are strollers with a strap to hold which will keep the stroller from getting away from you. Storage space to carry a diaper bag, water, packages, etc. is another plus. Some strollers have an adjustable seat to make a comfortable ride for the passenger whether sitting up or lying back. And, of course, review the manufactures warranty.

Jogging stroller

Jogging strollers provide a safe comfortable means to take a child jogging with an adult. They usually have three wheels for stability. The triangle configuration offers stability as well as maneuverability. Large wheels which are 10-12 inches or larger make the stroller easy to push while walking, jogging, or running.

Lockable front wheels make great jogging and running strollers. They should have the option of locking for stability at higher speeds or unlocking to swivel for making tighter turns. The fixed wheel is really good for the everyday jogger or especially for those that are training for a run or race. The swivel wheel is great for maneuverability and getting around town or park, or beach. Look for a stroller with this option. Manufacturers have different locks but they are not difficult to change positions. Jogging strollers are well made and offer good value for the dollar.

There are many other features that make the stroller a wonderful tool for spending time with little ones. Almost all strollers come with a five-point harness which is imperative for baby’s safety. Many have a clear peek-through window in the canopy so you can see the child while you are running. There are rain shields available that can be added to the front of the stroller to keep the child from rain and strong wind.

Multi-child or Twin/double and even Triple Stroller

If you have more than one child in your family or have a day care and need a multi-child stroller there are several choices available. These strollers get their name from the number of children that it will accommodate. They also are available in standard, jogging, and umbrella models. There is a tandem stroller where one child sits behind the other. This is easier to move around in store isles or for different age children. There is also the side-by-side for two or three children which are a little wider but very sociable. Most have a lot of storage.
